Prenatal Genetic Counseling and Amniocentesis
Medical technology has advanced to the point where today there are tests that can diagnose whether a pregnancy is at increased risk for many congenital abnormalities. MSU Women's HealthCare works in collaboration with specially trained health professionals within MSU Genetics and MSU Radiology to offer a comprehensive perinatal diagnosis program for:
- Adolescent gynecology.
- Amniocentesis.
- Genetic counseling.
- Laboratory analyses.
- Diagnostic ultrasound.
One of the hallmarks of the perinatal diagnosis program is the service provided by genetics counselors. Should a problem be identified, patients can avail themselves of information and assistance during the decision making process and thereafter as needed. Ongoing supportive services are provided, such as monthly support groups.
